Avonley Kliewer is a rising junior at Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles, California. She takes French and Latin and became interested in linguistics when she completed a linguistics program in the summer going into tenth grade. Avonley received a perfect score on the National Latin Exam in sixth grade and has received medals in the National Latin Exam and National French Exam every year since. Aside from linguistics, Avonley has been a part of ASB, the Associated Student Body, since ninth grade where she has learned many leadership skills. She is a member of the Latin and French Honors Societies, UNICEF Club, French Club, Latin Club (JCL), Chemistry Club, and she started a Book Club last year called Pop Up Pages. Avonley also dances (ballet, tap, jazz, and pointe) and is a part of the National Charity League as an active volunteer. For fun, Avonley enjoys going to the beach, trying new dessert recipes, and searching for the best boba place in SoCal.
Chapter Vice President
Alec Buckner is a senior at Oak Park Independent School in Ventura County, California. He first found his passion for languages in sixth grade Latin class. Currently, Alec is studying both Mandarin Chinese and Spanish at school. He is also fluent in Russian and Ukrainian. Alec was the vice president of the Russian club at his last school. He is currently a member of the American Red Cross Youth Corps in which he helps communicate with community members who speak languages other than English. He is trained as a CPR instructor for the Red Cross, as well as certified in BLS, ACLS, and TECC. In his free time, Alec likes to work on his car, do Krav Maga and MMA, and try to expose himself to different cultures around LA.
