Simran Hajarnavis

Simran is a sophomore on the linguistics major track at New York University. She found her interest in linguistics at the intersection of her love for science (biology in particular) and learning other languages and about other cultures. Very interested in her Indian roots, she has a basic understanding of Hindi, Punjabi, and Marathi. She also studied Spanish for all four years in high school and continues to do so at college, and hopes to study abroad in Argentina one day. Simran is also involved in the second-year class activities board for the College of Arts and Sciences.

Nadera Herbert-bey

Nadera is a sophomore at New York University studying Film & TV and linguistics. The specific language that she learning right now is Korean. Ever since middle school, Nadera has always been interested in learning languages. Until she started learning a foreign language and found how difficult it was to do so, she realized that she is more fascinated by the mechanics of languages. In the past, she has studied French, German, and Japanese. In the summer of 2021, she plans on studying in Korea for 3 months to get a better hold of the language.
